It’s a busy, loud, epic world out there. Latest reports indicate the Facebook platform alone has 2.1 billion users. The adage made popular from the film Field of Dreams still holds true, “Build it and they will come”. Though there many things vying for the attention of audiences, we have to, in the words of Business Consultant Kedma Ough, “Get above the noise. Be different. In a world of social media noise you need to stand out and be remembered.” #endorsed

The power and potential of Social Media for business-use still reside in its ability to communicate in real-time to the masses. There are masses on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and the other Social Media platforms, businesses which aren’t staking their claim in the social, mobile landscape run the risk of falling off the map.

Social Media Marketer Daryl D’Souza says your brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room. With Social Media the room has just gotten that much bigger making it all the more imperative that you manage and protect and protect your brand.

HABIT 1 | Build Community | You build community by creating or curating content which resonates with your audience; which adds value. We are happy to see Facebook as a Social Media company seeking to return to its roots of fostering community. Somewhere along the way we got lost and Social Media stopped being social. Be social. Local phone company GTT understands this, and that is why for its Innov8 Summit 2018 it partnered with Bloggers, Vloggers, Influencers and general Social Media enthusiasts as part of its efforts to continue to build community by offering various perspectives of the event to the online public.

QUOTE | “If you make customers unhappy in the physical world, they might each tell 6 friends. If you make customers unhappy on the Internet, they can each tell 6,000 friends.” – Jeff Bezos

HABIT 2 | Build Engagement | Engagement is also part of building community, yet important enough to be considered separately. Engage by embracing your identity, diversity, adversity and turning your vulnerability into opportunity. Put out great content but also be responsive to questions, comments, mentions, tags and hashtags, start a conversation. Your brand, as Digital Marketer Tai Tran suggests, needs to be led by your voice, the authentic you, “ultimately supported by an interconnected web of personality, passion and interest.” Your brand should speak of your triumphs, flaws and your successes. Be visual, make ample use of pictures, videos, especially, LIVE video.

HABIT 3 | Build Relationships | You will notice all 3 Habits we’ve suggested are interconnected. Here we suggest not just forming relationships to get your page LIKES up, but grow relationships. Don’t just push information to your audience, have a reason to drive dialogue and encourage conversation. As Jenni Flinders notes, you are what you post, so think before you post. And in the immortal words of Dr. Stephen Covey, ‘To touch the soul of another human being is to walk on sacred ground’. Be social, make a connection. And finally, as has become the mantra of one of our favourite companies, we leave you with our final quote…

QUOTE | “People do business with those they know, like, and trust. To be known, you must show up. To be liked, you must provide value. To be trusted, you must be consistent.” – The Futur
